Ezekiel- God the Bridegroom

The Old Testament prophets, especially Isaiah, Ezekial and Hosea, often used the relationship between husband and wife as a metaphor for the relationship between God and His people.  For example in Ezekiel 16:8: "When I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love... I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine."

Verses like this have led some Christians to use the term "Bride of Christ" to refer to the church.  Some of the attributes of Jesus as to the terms Bridegroom and Husband are symbolized throughout the bible. Some of them that I can relate to in my own marriage is:  we can rely on Jesus to love, provide for and protect us. It also means that we are to remain absolutely faithful to Him, putting Him first, and not allowing other people or things to take first place in our hearts.  Moreover, when one becomes a Christian, one enters into an eternal covenant with Him, just as a wife enters into a lifelong covenant with her husband when she marries.

Ezekiel 16 is so graphic in describing how Jereselum as a beautiful "wife" has used in beauty and whored herself out to everything under the sun. This whole chapter symbolizes how wicked we can be to our God giving into all kinds of sins, not being faithful (that end up destroying us) not thinking about our bridegroom who loves us the most and wants all kinds of great things for us.

Personally I hope to never dishonor or be unfaithful my husband Andy. After reading Ezekiel I think: wow I would never do that to my husband. Yet I wonder what God thinks about me and his church... do I dishonor God daily? Do I whore myself out to wordly acts and desires?
