Well as you know Alyeska has been breech for pretty much the whole third trimester (week 25 or even before), we kept praying she would turn but she liked her head jabbing my ribs for some reason :) So by week 39 we schedule an exterior inversion at the hospital which is basically turning her from the outside of my belly. The backup plan was an obvious C-section. Well she did not want to budge so they rushed to do a c-section (mind you I had an epidural before so I was ready to go), it happened so fast just to make sure that stress from the inversion didn't do anything to the baby. To make a long story short we checked in the hospital at 5:30 p.m. and Alyeska was out by 8:10 p.m. and I was back in my hospital room all stitched up by 8:30 p.m. with my baby in my arms. Pretty amazing! Everything was fast and I'm now at home a few days later healing up.

First the big question is how did we come up with her name. Her name is the Alaut word Alaska
meaning "mainland", "great country", or "great land". When we were in Alaska last year for our one year anniversary Andy mentioned that Alyeska would be a cute name for a girl as we were passing the Alyeska ski resort in our car rental. He doesn't remember saying that but it stuck with me until we started talking baby names. Andy then wanted a pretty french middle name so he started looking on the internet and came across Chamonix which is a valley between Mt. Blanc in France (also the name of the ski resort town there). We both loved the pronunciation and heard that the place is beautiful. Now we have an excuse to go visit one day with our daughter. Andy also said she will just have to be a skier being that her first and last names are ski resorts :)

  1. Your class is adorable and they miss you! I showed them your school blog of the baby this morning and I think they were more surprised you wore glasses than anything!! But anyways, your daughter is beautiful! I am excited for you and what a neat name for her! I wish my name had a cool story behind it! Congrats and I wish you the best of luck!
