There is something about the holidays that make me want to have family traditions that I look forward to every year. Andy and I started some last year in our first year of marriage. Some of those traditions are as simple as watching certain Christmas movies EVERY year such as Home Alone, The Grinch, Elf, Charlie Brown, etc. Other ones are more personal like having an ongoing Christmas puzzle through the holidays. We want to try to buy a new puzzle from Savers every year so we have plenty to choose from. Lastly I told Andy that I want a cheesy family Christmas picture every year with our cheesiest Christmas outfits and smiles. I can't wait until our future kids take part in this tradition. There are other really fun traditions that we can't wait to start when we have kids. For example I want to have my kids open new PJs/slippers every year to wear for the holidays. We definitely want Jesus to be our main focus. Besides talking about the true Christmas Story what else does your families do to make this tradition alive. I need some ideas. Do any of you have any other fun traditions you have started, or want to start in your families? I would love to hear them and maybe even copy them ;)

I love the idea of starting traditions. I didn't grow up with too many and that always made me a little sad. While everyone else was doing things for the holiday's "that they've always done" my family wasn't up to much of anything! So I too would like to start traditions with Steve and me and our kids. One thing we did do though was every Christmas before we opened our present my dad would read the Christmas story from the Bible. It was really nice. We never grew up learning about Santa. We always knew that Jesus was the reason we celebrated Christmas!
ReplyDeletelast year we started making Jesus a Birthday Cake--and we even sang Happy Birthday Jesus. It was an awesome start of a new tradition!!! We also have the kids open one gift on Christmas Eve which are usually PJs--also Milk and Cookies for Mrs. and Ms. Clause are a good snack while wrapping and delivering gifts ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your traditions! Sometimes I start freaking out over not having traditions, but Drew always reminds me that some of the best traditions just happen, so keep your eyes open for things you do that you would like to repeat the following year. Super cute pictures!
